From 29 to 31 January 2025, the 1st EAAP Workshop on Insect Genetics, titled Insect Genetic IMProvement, IMPlementation, IMPact, was held at the Agricultural University of Athens, Greece. The event was organised by the European Federation of Animal Science (EAAP) in collaboration with COST Action CA22140 INSECT-IMP.

The workshop brought together leading experts in insect breeding, genetics, and sustainability, offering a comprehensive programme including:

• Plenary sessions on genetic improvement in insects

• Hands-on training in quantitative genetics and population simulations

• Thematic sessions on genetic diversity, phenotyping, and breeding goals

• Ample opportunities for networking and knowledge exchange

• A social dinner to encourage collaboration and build community

In parallel with the conference, three free training schools were organised by COST Insect-IMP:

• Crash Course in Quantitative Genetics

• Population Simulation

• Dissemination and Science Communication
